The Cast of "Pride and Prejudice" outside the Knightstone Theatre
REVIEW - Western Daily Press Wednesday April 24th 1968 - AUSTEN RUNS REALLY WELL
In its golden jubilee production of Pride and Prejudice, Weston-super-Mare Dramatic Society has captured all the subtleties of Jane Austen's classic.
It is perhaps inherent in the play that the women have the best lines, and Barbara Usher, as Lady Lucas, gives a finely studied cattiness, while Joy Wilkinson, as Mrs. Bennett, is equally effective in diction and emphasis.
Paul Dening brings a wry wit to the rather pompous Mr. Bennett, and Tony Hayman looms loftily in the role of the haughty Mr. D'Arcy.
The three Bennett daughters offer cleverly contrived contrast.
Producer Neville Redman has succeeded in bringing off a smooth, well-balanced and entirely satisfying production, which continues all this week. E.H.
